whether they're fired up for romney, forget that question right now. they're fired up to vote out obama. you don't see that among hispanics, not among young voters. that's still an issue the obama campaign has to worry about. >> okay. in swing states, of course, the obama campaign has bomb borded vote wers this powerful ad going over romney for his 47% remark. let's take a look. >> there are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. who are dependent on government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they're entitled to haek, to food, to housing, to you name it. and they will vote for this president no matter what. and so my job is not to worry about those people. i'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives. >> howard, i opened the show tonight with what we call our cold open. i said does obama like you? and there's a lot of people who are going to see that ad and say, i'm in that picture somewhere. i'

and right now you see the romney campaign, they are trying to make inroads into this constituency, primarily by focusing on small business issues. and i think there's real choice in front of asian american voters right now. what we are seeing in all of our polling is that asian americans are most likely going to vote at levels that are even greater than at 2008, in part because they're more voters within the community and it will be interesting to see how that pans out. >> carthick, you found that obama leads romney 43% to 24%, yet 33% is undecided. that is a huge number, 33%. does that surprise you? >> it doesn't surprise us, because we found a similar proportion in 2008. but it does surprise people who are used to seeing something like 7% or 8% from most polls of the general population in the united states. so the quintessential swing vote is the asian american vote. and as tobey said, this is a vote that is just growing over time. we had 2000 voters, and we anticipate even more as you get the second generation that are entering into voting age and more enthusiasm among asian american vote

compare predent obama's lead over mitt romney right now. 6%. it's outside the margin of error. could president obama suffer a loss in the same way as president obama carter did despite the lead with more than a month to go, ed o'keefe? >> of course. that's why the only poll that matters is the one that's taken on election day when people actually vote. these polls are meant to serve as quick snapshots of how people were feeling at varying points in time. we use them because we're eager to understand how it is that the electorate is reacting to everything going on. five weeks remain. what is it, 37 days? anything can happen. it could be the debate on wednesday. it could be some other surprise on wednesday or here in the united states. everything could change. that's why it's important that everyone remember that these are just quick snapshots. we use them. it behooves journalists to make sure we don't rely on them too much to start drawing conclusions. >> we do love polls here. it gives us something to talk about. let me ask you this. i have a buddy who contends one of the effec
